MDF or Lathron, that is the question!!!

MDF or Lathron, that is the question!!!

  •

Why are the products of Ostad Industrial Group made from premium MDF?
Basically, what is the difference between MDF and Neopan (also known as Melamine) and Lathron?
Neopan, Melamine, and Lathron are essentially names for the same product. Melamine and Lathron are modern and more elegant names for Neopan.

They are made from compressed wood chips covered with various colored coatings available in the market.

What is the difference between Melamine (Neopan) and MDF?
MDF consists of very fine wood fibers that are compressed, and when you run your hand over it, it feels velvety.

The weight of an MDF sheet is heavier than Lathron and it has much higher resistance to load because it has greater density and compression. This means that products made from Lathron tend to sag over time and lose their original shape.

However, MDF has very good load resistance, and if the products have proper joints (which will be explained in another article about joint types), you will have a stylish and excellent product for many years.

Of course, MDF also has different grades, and at Ostad Industrial Group, we use premium quality MDF from the proud Iranian brand Aryan Sina.

Another important point is the higher resistance of MDF to moisture and heat compared to Lathron.

This is especially important for using products in humid areas such as northern or southern regions of the country.

It is impossible to identify MDF just by looking at the coating; to properly identify it, you need to examine the board before it is laminated with PVC.

This is why buying products from reputable centers with warranty becomes valuable.

Melamine (Neopan) and MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) are two different types of construction materials, and their main differences are as follows:

    1. Base material:

      • Melamine (Neopan): Melamine is made from particleboard or dried wood panels coated with a melamine surface. The melamine coating is usually a paper impregnated with resin, available in various colors.

      • MDF: MDF is made from finely shredded wood fibers and wood particles compressed together and then covered with a wood or plastic veneer.

    2. Mechanical resistance:

      • Melamine (Neopan): Because of the solid wood particles in its composition, Melamine has higher resistance to load and pressure.

      • MDF: MDF, being a fiberboard made from fine wood fibers, has lower mechanical resistance. It is mainly used as a surface material for decoration and design.

    3. Common uses:

      • Melamine (Neopan): Used as a surface material for cabinets, tables, furniture, and other wooden products, favored for its beauty and high resistance to everyday damage.

      • MDF: Used for making cabinets, panels, tables, and various interior furniture. Also used as a decorative surface for walls and ceilings.

Therefore, the main difference between Melamine (Neopan) and MDF lies in the base material, mechanical resistance, and common applications. Choosing between them depends on project needs and intended use.

    Melamine:
Melamine (Neopan) is a construction material widely used in furniture and interior design. It is made from particleboard or dried wood panels and covered with a melamine coating, usually paper impregnated with resin available in various colors and patterns.

Melamine is known as a surface material with the following features:

    1. Beauty: Available in many colors and patterns, allowing diverse designs.

    2. Resistance: Good resistance to impact, scratches, heat, and moisture, making it suitable for furniture and wooden products.

    3. Easy maintenance: Easy to clean and requires little upkeep.

    4. Variety: Available in different thicknesses and sizes, including sheets and boards.

It is used for cabinets, tables, furniture, and other interior furnishings, contributing to attractive and durable interiors.

    Neopan:
Neopan (also called Melamine) is a type of construction material widely used in furniture and interior decoration. The term "Neopan" usually refers to a specific type of Melamine. It consists of particleboard or dried wood panels, mainly made from high-quality particleboard or MDF, coated with melamine.

The melamine coating usually consists of paper impregnated with resin, resistant to scratches and impacts, and available in various colors and patterns.

Neopan is used as a surface and covering material for furniture, cabinets, tabletops, and other interior furnishings. It is appreciated for its beauty, durability, and design versatility.

    MDF:
MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) is a construction material widely used in furniture manufacturing, construction, and interior decoration. It is made from finely shredded wood fibers, wood particles, and adhesives compressed together.

    Important features of MDF:

    • Made of fine wood fibers and wood particles compressed together, then covered with wood or plastic veneer.

    • Has lower mechanical resistance compared to solid wood and is mostly used in interior and decorative applications.

    • Used for making furniture, cabinets, doors, flooring, paneling, and other interior furnishings. Also used as a surface for walls and ceilings.

    • Easy to process: can be cut, carved, and coated easily, allowing manufacturers to create pieces in various shapes and sizes.

    • Popular due to its ease of processing, lower cost than solid wood, and design versatility.
